Philippians - Mark Lussier
I began attending in the Fall of 1988. I had just moved back to Western
Massachusetts when Bob Allen, who knew my Dad, invited me to join his
Men’s Bible Study group at the YMCA at 7AM on Wednesday
mornings. At first, I balked at the thought of getting out of bed in the
morning an hour earlier than usual, to get to a Bible study in Springfield. I
have found after attending for the past 18 years, I eagerly look forward to
meeting with God and my brothers in Christ each week. The Word of
God has been used to instruct, correct, rebuke, and train me in
righteousness, due in large degree, to God’s faithfulness to meet me each
week along with the other faithful men who have stood with me over these
many years.
We will soon be studying the book of Philippians. This challenging book
dares us to live as Christ expects from us. In it, the apostle Paul describes
to us his credentials as a loyal Pharisee and his righteousness in keeping
the Jewish law, as "blameless". He urges us to live lives in the power of
Jesus' resurrection, and to "press toward the mark for the prize of the high
calling of God in Jesus Christ.
